The Percent for Arts committee reviewed all the proposals and decided to award the commission to Milo. Milo was happy, but he knew that it meant several years of hard work ahead.
First, he thought about how to get kids to make really great drawings. He wrote to all the schools in the neighborhood and invited the first and second grade classes to participate in workshops with him. He built little drawing stations and made collages of images of many different kinds of animals and insects so that the kids would have inspiration for their drawings. He made a costume of a knight in armor riding a bright orange horse.
He was surprised when only a few of the schools wanted to participate in the workshops, but he made a sign and put it up at the park. Then, he began holding the workshops. He rode into the classroom or gazebo in his horse costume and tell the kids all about the history of carousels. |
